Re: Temperature for hibernating ants
If the species is native to where you live and you are sure they hibernate then just place them in a shed or garage or unheated room this should be fine for a native species.
Re: Temperature for hibernating ants
I have a shed but my shed stays pretty cold in the winter . Will the shed still be ok ?
Re: Temperature for hibernating ants
If the shed is really cold then wrap the nest is bubble wrap
Re: Temperature for hibernating ants
Ok , do you think I need to do that if it gets in the 20's
Re: Temperature for hibernating ants
Yeah I would the basic idea is to keep them above the temperature outside but cold enough for them to hibernate
Re: Temperature for hibernating ants
Idk if the wrap will really help. It won't really keep them warmer, just prolong how long it takes them to get cold. It all depends on their nesting habits in the wild. Species that live deep underground tend to be less tolerant of low temperatures than ones that live above the surface in acorns, logs, and other structures.
Re: Temperature for hibernating ants
But to awnser your initial post. Somewhere between 40-50 is safest for them
