Queen Ant Foundary Activity
Does the queen ant really do anything during foundation?
Or does she just sit and wait patiently for the eggs to grow and hatch?
Oh and does anyone know how long it typically takes for Formica Pallidfulva eggs to hatch then pupate?
Am I just being to impatient and itchy? Lol

Re: Queen Ant Foundary Activity
Yes don't worry we are all impatient, just got to overcome it, and yes they don't do much else, formica will probably take between 1-3 months.
Hi I'm Jack, How are you?
Re: Queen Ant Foundary Activity
Is this applicable for all Formica sp.?
Wondering because I have a Formica podzolica queen at the moment. First timer heh
Re: Queen Ant Foundary Activity
Yes, applicable to most ants actually, don't worry, patience.

Re: Queen Ant Foundary Activity
It depends on the species (some species are semi-claustral and need to forage during founding, like Myrmica queens) and the individual queen (even among the fully claustral queens there are some that forage nonetheless - Messor queens are known to do so).
Re: Queen Ant Foundary Activity
What's a good optimal temperature for her?
Re: Queen Ant Foundary Activity
I think between 20 and 27 degrees C. About room temperature basically.
