Re: test tubes?
I use 20x150mm
I like the length because it is long enough to where you can place their food at the very end and anchor it by the cotton so they can't bring it back to their nest. Once they're done with a food, I just take it right out. I find it to reduce the risk of mold outbreak. I have colonies in test tubes for over a month and it has close to very little mold.
The diameter of these are also great if you are keeping a camponotus species.
I have 2 Camponotus Sericeus in these test tubes and they never picked the cotton, they became comfortable right away and started laying eggs as opposed to my other camponotus that I placed in a smaller test tube that I eventually had to relocate on a petri dish because they wouldn't stop picking on the cotton for a whole week straight.
You can also pack ALOT of ants in these. I've seen videos on youtube where a camponotus colony of over 50 workers are still in one of these test tube set ups.

Re: test tubes?
25mm x 150mm plastic drinkers for small birds. Same shape as a test tube and easy to get at my local pet shop.
Re: test tubes?
If you think you might be interested in using Hybrid nests, the Hybrid nest ships with one 16x150mm plastic test tube. This size fits the Hybrid nest connection points.
