A good source for test tubes is LCM labs, although those are in bulk.

If I were to manage to get a test tube how would I go with making the setup?
This explains it perfectly:

Also here's a do-it-yourself instructions for a super cheep and really good ant nest:

Ok, good news. I caught a queen and she's in a test tube and has laid eggs. She's been there for about a week and she's doing great. When her eggs hatch how do I go to keep her? I found test tubes at a local store.

I had a queen ant that didn't have wings, I made a test tube setup, but instead of using water I mixed honey and water to make a fancy little concoction, and it died within a day. My mom made me keep it outside, though, but I covered it up so the sun couldn't touch it, and it had a dark place to stay in. How could it have died?

Ants should always have access to fresh water. Sometimes they died without any apparent reason.
My current colonies:
-Miniature Military(formica neogagates)
-Black Hearts(crematogaster cerasi)
In search of new camponotus colony

Yes they need a constant supplies of it, when the colony gets big you can give them fresh water and honey water(at the same times).
