Towel or no towel

I'll be keeping my ants in a box in my garage. Should I try to cut down on light exposure with a towel or could that suffocate them? I'm in the Virginia area so typical daytime temp is like 86 and nighttime is around 70.

Try to make a good pathway for air to get to the cotton.

As long as it is not an air tight seal, they should be fine.

should be fine having a towel over them, unless its a rubber towel.
