Re: camponotus care
Hi,
There isn't a "easiest beginner species," because everybody has different opinions about it, but Camponotus is a very good choice because they are easy to handle, and not too small that you can't see them. I suggest that you research more on other species, so that you can find a suitable species personally for you.

Re: camponotus care
ah ok thanks! ive been specifically looking at pennsylvanicus, americanus, chromaiodes, and novaeboracensis and wasnt sure which one to pick. if anyone has/had a colony of any of these, id love to hear!
Re: camponotus care
ive researched some more and decided on camponotus americanus. what kind of supplies would work well for them? should i just start out with the basic camponotus gear pack, or are there better options? sorry for so many questions, like i said this is my first time and i wanna be prepared haha

Re: camponotus care
Good choice! The camponotus gear pack is very suitable for large species like camponotus americanus, and species who need big, and wide nests for the large amount of ants in the colony. There are also other stores that sell awesome nests too. Like, antsaustralia, ant keeping depot, and many others. It also depends on how you want the nest to be like, and the price of the formicarium. (a formicarium is a nest) You might run into some problems with the camponotus gear pack because the tubing might not fit, and other issues with the size of the pieces. I recommend you look at multiple stores that sells ant products, and then decide on which store or formicarium you want to buy. If you have any more questions, please let me know!
Re: camponotus care
thank you! i do actually have another question haha. what are some good stores to buy large tank-like formicariums for mature colonies (like shown on the AntsCanada channel)? i know it will take a while for the colony to grow large enough, im just curious about where i should eventually order one from
