Carpenter ant species recommendations?
I want to take care of a Camponotus(carpenter) ant species, I'm located in USA-Florida so any species southern usa would work
But I don't just want an aggressive carpenter ant species, and the internet refused to tell me what species of carpenter ant live in florida besides Camponotus floridanus, which are known to be very aggressive, and I'm relatively new to ant keeping so I feel like that would only make things much harder for me.
I've only kept a pavement ant colony in the past before and they were the friendliest ant species I've ever kept, because they refused to bite me xD
I don't really know what species near carpenter florida or in florida are friendly, please help!

Re: Carpenter ant species recommendations?
There is Camponotus pennsylvanicus which is a very common and popular species in the eastern US. There is also Camponotus castaneus which is an orangey-yellow species. And there is Camponotus discolor which is a red and black species similar to C. floridanus, and also there's Camponotus americanus and Camponotus socius which are both very pretty species. These are just some of the more popular ones, there are a lot more species out there.

Re: Carpenter ant species recommendations?
Does anyone know what month Camponotus Discolor comes out for nuptial flights? is there a website I can use to figure this out? I'm assuming probably in April
hi
Re: Carpenter ant species recommendations?
Most camponotus species have their nuptual flights around May, June and July. You can see a more specific graph here https://antflights.com/stats/flights/Camponotus.

I would say that any Camponotus species you can find in your area would be good.
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.
