Hi,
A few months ago, I received a carpenter ant colony from one of my friends after they wanted to release it.
Recently, ghost ants have started to invade the area, and I have spotted dismembered carpenter ants in the ant farm.
I have identified the place that the ghost ants are able to fit through, but fixing it will take some time.
In the meantime, is there any way to keep the ghost ants out of the area?
Thanks!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't vinegar deter ants? A barrier around the nest could keep them from raiding your colony.

The most fool proof way would be to put a ring of diatomaceous chalk around the nest (make sure that you leav about a one foot gape between the nest and the ring, this way the ants will have time to die.)carrotants wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 8:44 amHi,

Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

Personally I recommend this.carrotants wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 8:44 amHi,

It's a liquid you apply to the surface, if glass it will work. I'm not super sure about the Silicon tho. It makes the surface slippery so the ants cannot grip. Since Ghost ants are too light to drown in water or break of Baby powder from the barrier, this is the solution I would try. I never encountered Ghost ants so I got no personal experience with this.
Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.
