Black Capenter ant workers died so soon
I had my first queen even when she landed on me while I was gaming. I kept her in a test tube and she had worker cocoons. I check 4 days later ans they are out but they all died at the same time. The test tube setup did have mold on the water end so I plucked her and put her in a new fresh setup. Will she be fine without her first nanitics until she gets new one or do I have to feed her? What are my next steps to keep her going. She seems fine herself

I would give her a drop of honey or some protein to keep her going.

C. Pennsylvannicus x2

I gave her my bee honey (Real from the hive) and a crushed dead baby spider. Also if I wrap the test tube in red tape can I keep an eye on her more?RespectforAnts wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 10:21 pmI would give her a drop of honey or some protein to keep her going.

Yes, but if you want you can leave her in light. I know I say it a lot, but Camponotus colony growth or founding is not affected by light. Just to be safe, I would use red film as she is not fresh caught which is easier to adapt them.AgithaPeach wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 11:33 pmI gave her my bee honey (Real from the hive) and a crushed dead baby spider. She hasn't laid any eggs since though too...she seems to hang around the water a lot. the dead were female at least. Her gastor is big though so I don't know why she wont lay more eggs? She is in a colder environment. Would it be better to keep her heated a little bit? Also she didn't eat the honey or the dead spider I crushed for her...

Camponotus benefits greatly from heat, it would be a good idea to heat her.AgithaPeach wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 7:18 pmShe hasn't laid any eggs since though too...she seems to hang around the water a lot. the dead were female at least. Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

Yes, it is very possible. Ants get big gasters before hibernation, and some people have to hibernate colonies as early as July, especially with C. Lignaperda who only lay so many eggs per year.AgithaPeach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 10:15 pmIs it possible she is hibernating? its august but I wonder if thats why she is so still
