I added 2 pupae to my oldest carpenter ant queen who already has one pupae 2 larvae and a few eggs, After a day I checked on her again and she added the brood to her pile. Is this a good Idea?

Just make sure the new pupae aren’t killed, but I do this when a queen is 100% fertilized

Just the risks of brood boosted. My queens accept(Of Odontomachus and Camponotus) around 2/3 cocoons offered. Hopefully this next pupae survives.

So does the other one still have a chance?

Absolutely. Some may just be too close to hatching, so the queen may recognize them as a worker and kill them. Typically I take cocoons that look very new, so it’s like her larvae spun cocoons. That way, they have more time to gain the colony scent.

So thats why the first one dies she was almost ready to hatch. The cacoon has been there for 4 days is that good enough it's still far from hatching, also what are the chances this is going to work?

If it was a young pupae you have her, you have a decent chance. Don’t know the odds though. As I said before my odds are around 2/3 when brood boosting a mix of young cocoons and middle aged cocoons. Once you can see eyes on the cocoon, she probably won’t kill it.
