Indeed. Nice thing about them is they don’t bore through wood. I wish I would have known that though when I made a nest for them as a beginner.LaniLyne0106 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 11:18 amThanks they are definitely my favorite. C. Actually it’s been about three weeks since I caught mine! Time really does fly sorry about that. It has however been two weeks and four days since I had fed them. Not really a huge differenceLaniLyne0106 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 2:16 pmWow that’s a long time, thanks for metioning that. I will be sure to give queens #1 and #2 enough time just to be sure

Someone’s queen took 5 months for eggs, but it did go through 3 month hibernation(Lasius spp.)LaniLyne0106 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 2:41 pmActually it’s been about three weeks since I caught mine! Early queen update
I will be out of town for a few days so I decided to check on my carpenter ant queens early. I have some good and bad news. The good news is queen #2 now has four eggs! Queen #3 has five eggs, and queen #4 has four eggs. Now the bad news, queen #1 has died not entirely sure why but her gaster is really swollen, so maybe some form of parasites

Sorry for that. Maybe parasites, or she could have mites. Next week, see if you can spot any mites on other queens.LaniLyne0106 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 10:03 amEarly queen update

I will, although you must know queen #1 was the one I found under wood at my friends place.SolenopsisKeeper wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 3:43 pmSorry for that. Maybe parasites, or she could have mites. Maybe didn’t adjust correctly? I doubt it, as queens are very adaptive, but still a possibility of change of humidity, temperature, etc. Probably some parasite. Some parasites infect ants at larvae stage, so it could be some sort of nematode. Go to the antwiki page and see what types of things it is a host for. Just don’t check S. Invictas, there is pages of things that use them as host.LaniLyne0106 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 6:36 pmI will, although you must know queen #1 was the one I found under wood at my friends place.SolenopsisKeeper wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 3:43 pmSorry for that.
