Questions about my small Camponotus novaeboracensis colony.

I have a Camponotus novaeboracensis colony with seven workers in a Tarheelants mini hearth.
They just got done hibernating about one week ago. Only one worker has had a small drink of honey. So I was wondering if they needed something different to eat or if this is normal. They do seem a little scared to go up into the feeding area, so I was also wondering if I should put them back into a test tube setup or what.

No this is a fine nest. They are timid but defensive at small stages, as one worker that dies in the wild would mean death to the colony. They need protein, and also you can try eggs, fruits, other sugar sources, and anything they would find in your local area.

Thanks. I'll give them some hard-boiled egg.

I bought a bottle of Ant Park Protein Super Gel.
Does anyone know if Camponotus novaeboracensis likes this brand of protein gel?

Akd sells it, and Amazon sells it for crickets, but I haven’t tried it off Amazon.
