Crematogaster Care

I’m keeping the Crematogaster colony in a mini-nest set-up. The workers seem to avoid crossing the connectors, I’ve tried adding them for a test tube water attachment. I tried putting food in the tube as well and it didn’t lure them in. Strangely they’ll enter tubing. Currently I put wet q-tip in the tubing as a water source. Is that usual? Any advice to get them to use the connectors?

Maybe it's because you colony is to small when they need water/food they will go out foraging for some so I think it's best to just wait.
