I'm also in a tropical country and my Camponotus doesn't hibernate. However my Camponotus irritans colony with 30-40 workers seems to have a similar problem.

Re: My 20 Worker Colony Went Down
I have a colony of camponotus compressus and i live in india. I also thought they would not go in hibernation because i saw the workers of the same in the wild all year around. One day i woke up and saw they were hibernating. A month has passed and they are still hibernating.
Your queen might also be hibernating

Ants I have-
camponotus compressus colony- the shadow warriors.
Pls just let me have a tetramorium colony

I haven't heard ants rolling into a ball during hibernation. Mine are just sitting, not moving at all. Have they hibernated before? Did you see them do this at that time?

The following fact is not completely true. Please check the following posts.
AntsLuxembourg wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 9:30 amUsually when ants role up into a ball, it means they are dead. I have never heard of ants rolling up for anything except death. Also know as death curl. So unless someone presents us a science paper where this was observed or unless they uncurl, you can assume the affect ants are dead and will be moved out soon enough.ColinKim wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 5:29 amNever did.Antloverhuman wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 8:28 amI haven't heard ants rolling into a ball during hibernation. Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

I would like to retract my previous statement then.
I've never heard of it or seen it but it is good to know that it actually does happen / exist. For my defense I started watching AntsCanada about 5 years ago or and I didn't start with his oldest videos. Hence why I was unaware of this kind of curl up. Good that some of us here pay more attention to his videos. ^^
