How scattered do the brood have to be for a high chance of the queen being infertile?

I have a queen ant and her eggs are slightly scattered (maybe a few millimetres apart) but my lasius queen has them stacked. I am not sure if the distance is enough to be seen as being infertilism. How far apart do they have to be?

As long as the eggs are not stuck together, she could be infertile but it isn't always as some species will still scatter their brood even though the are fertile.

hmm, but I am suspecting that the queen is eating her eggs as her egg count keeps decreasing...

Don't worry about the queen, as checking often only causes stress. Yes, scattered eggs are a sign of a virgin queen, but the only way to know for sure is if they develop into alates.

colony update (technically queen update): I think she wants to have one worker first before having more because she has only let one large larvae survive and its the only one she has right now... Interesting, some queens are very different.
