I gave my ants a spider but they aren't leaving the nest now or eating it. Its about an inch or two away from the nest. I think that they ant leaving the nest because they smell it and don't know what it is. The reason I think this is because they with go the nest entrance and then go right back in.

I took the spider out and gave them some honey on a rock instead.

I saw a worker come out and drink some honey.

that is not someone who likes spiders more than ants would like to hear. Anyways, some ants don't eat insects if it is too dry. Next time, try a bug that still has the blood pouring out of it.

I fed them a cricket that I was keeping after it died and it must not have been wet enough because they did not eat it.

The best way is to kill the insect yourself. Sad truth but...
