Well now I put a sheild on their nest because I moved their locations. At a certain time of the day, the sun shines right on them, so it is neccessary to sheild them from that. But they are already used to the light anyway.

Just an update on my colony: they are growing again! I had noticed in the past that when I fed them fruit flies it seemed to boost their development. So I decided to start breeding fruit flies (which is going very well) I fed them about 25 fruit flies last week, and now all of the small larvae are growing into mature larvae at a rapid pace, I plan to see more eggs soon as well.
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!

I found a new Camponotus queen. She's black with red legs. I put her in a test tube set up but she keeps tearing at the cotton is this normal for a newly caught queen?

Yeah, this is usually an indicator she's stressed or infertile.NolanGiesbrecht wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:07 amI found a new Camponotus queen. She's black with red legs. I put her in a test tube set up but she keeps tearing at the cotton is this normal for a newly caught queen?

If she dose not stop within a week, she's probably infertile.NolanGiesbrecht wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:07 amI found a new Camponotus queen. She's black with red legs. I put her in a test tube set up but she keeps tearing at the cotton is this normal for a newly caught queen?

Re: Welcome back to the Camponotus Crew! (New topic, old one got too long)
oh, my campo is not doing that, i totally did not stress her or anything (obvious lie), she's pretty chill. For some odd reason (totally not me shaking the tt and turning it every way possible) her eggs were scattered, she reorganized them back again. I'm very exited as this is my 2nd campo after like two years (dont ask why so long...).SYUTEO wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 10:34 amYeah, this is usually an indicator she's stressed or infertile.NolanGiesbrecht wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:07 amI found a new Camponotus queen.
