Also, can someone please tell me what colony budding actually is, is it that the queens make males that are not their ofspring... blabla, like black crazy ants? or is it something else? I hope is first option as i will have a big tapinoma colony!

Also just found out brood does not hibernate, I found it all dead. :( Just one month and my Camponotus novaeboracensis colony is out of the fridge!!!!!!!!! :D
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

Colony budding is when some workers and a virgin queen or gamergate breaks off from it's mother colony to form a new one. This is how army ants and queenless ants create new colonies.

yes but how does the virgin queen come to be? does she mate with a male from outside and then buds?

Yes, although this may be different depending on species.

Black Crazy Ants also bud to reproduce right? but in their nest alates mate with drones in the colony because the males are not genetically connected with the alates

Maybe, but they do sometimes have nuptial flights, it's quite rare to see a P. longicornis queen on her own but it does happen, I personally found one before.

Maybe Camponotus aeneopilosus. They are literally called golden tail sugar ants.
