Well, my two year old Camponotus novaeboracensis colony is not growing at all. I feed them and everything, but no brood development in the past four months. There is plenty of brood though, but all stuck at small larvae. They have about 50 workers. Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this, and if so if their colony ever started growing again?
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

I think I heard somewhere that says Camponotus need urea in their diet to produce certain amino acids. It has been theorized that some colonies die mysteriously due to lack of urea.

I think he feeds them fruit flies, which contain urea iirc.

Try feeding them more fruit flies and more food in general

How much are you feeding them and how often?
When you accidentally reply to yourself…

Maybe about a cricket a week and a constant supply of sugar water. I'll try to find some fruit flies.

They need more food. Try at least 3 cricketers a week

I have tried twice, they died both times. I don't know what I did wrong.
