I was worrying if it is easier to start a new colony from a queen or get a queen and some workers from a colony you find .

Definitely easier to catch your own queen. Wild colonies often have trouble adapting to captivity.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.

id say it greatly depends. are you trying to catch a queen that only has nanitcs? or a large colony with 100+ workers?
