Help with acorn ants
Hello, I recently found a temnothorax colony in an acorn and I was wondering if I should leave them in it or move them in a test tube?

Re: Help with acorn ants
It always depends on wether or not there is a queen with them.
Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

Re: Help with acorn ants
There is a queen with many workers inside, I put the part with the hole in the test tube, the only part that fit and used tape to make sure it doesn't fall out and to ensure that there are no escapees, I'll wait to see if they move in though I'm guessing they'll move when the acorn dries out

I would put everything in a containerer to ensure, that they don't escape.

They can't escape that's for sure but there's no airflow, will that harm them?

Re: Help with acorn ants
You should try to give them some air to breath. It doesn't have to be much but maybe you can poke some small holes in there with a fine needle.

Re: Help with acorn ants
Alright, I put them in a plastic container, I was impatient so I carefully opened up the acorn, no ants were harmed, though unfortunately I wasn't able to find the queen, is it possible that that acorn had ants but not a queen? The ant that I though was a queen was actually a worker...

I don't think acorn ants have gamergates.WestWind237 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 4:15 pmit might be a colony with a gamergate(i dunno if it right spelling)

Re: Help with acorn ants
If I knew the species name, I could go and look it up or at least try to.
