I fed them a grub I found which they ate. Still no brood.

Not sure why but the picture is really really tiny. It's as if someone has massively zoomed out of it. :/
Could you try again?
Also it may take some time for the queen to produce more eggs. Unless she is a fire-ant which can spawn hundreds and thousands of eggs per day it may take a few days for that to happen.

Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

Are you using pc to upload pic? Way easier if you get the app in cellphone . Upload pic on Imgur then click pic Then click share icon *bottom* copy link .

I would say they are carpenter ants, maybe camponotus pennsylvanicus.
