The colony is eating now but they still won't accept insects. They currently only eat honey, sugar water, various types of fruit and cooked meats. Though sometimes they will accept insects but usually very little.

What kind of insects are you feeding them?
I know for example that the trap jaw ant colony of AntsCanada didn't take normal cockroaches but only ate the nymphs. This means that your colony might be picky eaters too. Depending on what you offer you could try to throw in a leg of that insect and see if they carry it to their nest.

Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

Feeling your pain, luv, one of my colonies turned their noses up at everything except this protein syrup I got online. That, they loved. When they wake up in the spring, they might never touch it again and want something else. They're like small children, LOL! All I can say is, keep trying different things. The ants know what they need.
