Escaped BHAs

So all was going swell. I had my colony set up. Ants were inside for about 4 days. Day five I've found a moat full of and bodies in the water tray and a few escapees running around amuck outside the small ant tower... I have such a simple setup...1 feeding test tube. No other escape routes. So my assumption is they're escaping right out the water receptical... Any advice?

Yeah I agree about them getting out from the water area. They’re so small so it makes sense. Can you tell me what formicarium set up you’re using so I can look it up and see it in full? I might have some suggestions once I can see how the tower is put together.
