Really it depends on how relaxed and calm the queen is. As there is only one worker it's probably best to check once a week or two, but never too often. So long as they have food just let them be until they have more workers.

Now we have 4 workers. Should she be comfortable with somewhat often checks?

yay she should be a little more relaxed now with some daughters around but i'd only check like once every day or 2 for like 10-20 mins of for as long as needed to feed them ect also try to make sure it your not unveiling them into direct sun light as they might think a predator has unearthed them
i use a red light to view my ants, made it out of a poundland led torch and a clear red shampoo bottle is a little pink ish but doesn't seem to bother the ants
1x Lasius Niger - early forging stage - 60-100 workers
1x Messor Barbarus - founding stage - <20 workers
1x Camponotus Turkestanus - claustral stage - 1 nanitic + brood
1x Odontoponera Transversa - semi-claustral stage - no eggs

Yeah, they kind of exploded in population over a few days. I made a post in ant keeping for beginners with some other questions if you have some time and feel like helping.
