You know what it might be. It might be that it's a little more humid in the test tube making it the ideal safest place because it's away from any other entrances.
I wouldn’t say your Formicarium is full or outgrown in my opinion anyway. What species of ant do you have in there? You may be right about it being the safest but I still think it might have to do with humidity. Is that test tube full of pupae and larvae? Wow if it is. Maybe put something in the outworld that holds water well so that they could bring into the nest to increase humidity where they want it.

I have an inquiry have any of you tried giving your ants fish food? If so would it be a source of protein?

Thank you,

Im not  sure but it might  be lack of food. I gave them everything I can think of. But they didn't eat. So I guess its kind of their fault also.

Some just don’t handle being captive very well. Just how it goes sometimes. Mine aren’t eating most of the protein I offer. I’ve been told after winter they might be better at excepting things and if they don’t it will ultimately end bad for them too. Makes me think of a saying “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink”. So true with ants as well.

Hello,

Im going to be completely honest about this. I am very new to this all. I've been doing alot of research about which types of ants are around my area, and which of those kinds are easy for beginners. Camponotus are the modt common luckily. I really want to do this with my 8 yr old son, cause i wanted to when i was his age, but never got to. Seeing him interested, and being so respectful to these insects really showed me an opportunity to make this into a really awesome hobby to do together. I came across this forum while ordering some queen capturing tubes and figured i join. If anyone would like to give some really needed tips, and or advice then feel free. After capturing a queen, i will happily give you guys updates. #antlove
