Good news and slight sad news, for those who are invested in every ant queen.

Helena is still caring very well for her eggs/maybe larvae. I don't have a magnifying glass so I can't tell if some of the eggs are shiny because they are damp (she is draining that water reservoir very fast for an ant.. I suspect not only drinking but keeping eggs damp) or if some have hatched into small larvae by now. It'll be two weeks since she laid her eggs in a few days, so it's possible.

Sol is still just sitting around, and the mold level in her tube has gotten to a point where it is out of control... I think I'm probably going to freeze her.

Serena... I think... has a few eggs lying around! I thought Helena's were small!! They are smaller than half a grain of salt! But they are also scattered instead of put in a pile like Helenas. Odd thing for a queen to do??

Since Serena is on the ball, so to speak, I think that confirms my suspicions that Sol isn't fertile.

I mean, I think it would be the only way. I don't know of any other way to do. And I don't want people to see 60 pages, and just say:
"Nope, 'ant' happening"(sorry had to put a pun in. ).

Anyway, update-

Estrella now has seven workers and a few more brood. Hoping to have around ten by hibernation time. I'm almost ready to let them into their new (small) outworld. I hope they like it. I do want to attach another tube though for them to move into, because this one is getting a little dirty with all the cocoon casing lying around, and it's such a small tube that I can barely get to them. I did just feed them a big drop of honey so I think they'll have plenty of energy for awhile. Anyway, can't wait to move them into their new world.

Hello, welcome to the crew flinx45. Glad to have you here. Nice to see a fellow Wisconsin guy here. I've always wanted a C. noveboracensis queen. They are really pretty. As far as diapause, I don't know too much about that, sorry. I do know that you should hibernate your ants anywhere from 2-10 degrees celsius. Can't wait to here more form you.

Don’t “freeze” Sol. She will die! If you can connect another tube and darken it then shine a bright light on the moldy tube. She should move to the other new tube.
