When a colony moves from one place to another does a worker carry the queen.

I was watching a colony moving, and this one worker was carrying what looks like to be a queen.I caught the worker and queen and several others with larva and placed them in a 2.5 gallon aquarium until I get home and place them in the tar heels phalanx. All the ants placed the larva around what looks like the queen and sit by touching her.

Well I checked them this morning and still haven't found the formacarium yet.But defiantly it is a queen, she laid six eggs lastnight.Any tricks to get them in the formacarium. They are staying behind it but haven't found the entrance yet.

Depends on the species I believe, but most have to at least coax her along. For example, my Pogonomyrmex occidentalis colony has moved twice now, and both times various workers have pulled the queen by the mouth out of the old nest and guided her to the new one. A couple of times one or two workers would try to carry her as well.

When the worker grabbed the queen she would ball up so the worker could carry her.
Thanks Durant,I don't know to post pics, besides my iPhone would not be that great.

Maybe they need more time to settle in.But the queen is laying eggs like crazy,I would guess there is around a hundred if not more.
