Crematogaster hibernation & air bubbles
. . As you can see 1 of the 4 crematogaster scutellaris queens has laid about 30 eggs. It’s starting to get cooler here in Florence Italy and what i learned is they may go into hibernation for 3 months. My concern are the air bubbles. Should i remove the bubbles? Will the water in these test tubes last for 3 months? I did remove wing pieces today in one tube. I did notice some wing pieces in another tube but they weren’t as easy to get to. Think it’s better to remove the wings? Do i treat the queen with eggs any different? For the bubbles can i suck the air out?

Re: Crematogaster hibernation & air bubbles
Air bubbles won't affect your queens in any way. Attempting to manually remove the air bubbles can result in catastrophe for both you and your queens. As for the wings, there should be nothing to worry about. When the workers arrive they will move it to the other side of the test tube where it can be easier to remove.
An ants' strength can be rivaled by few animals compared to relative body size.

Thanks for the input. It's funny that it will be the workers that will move wings for easier removal.
