Feeding dry dog food to ants

Yesterday I tried to feed my two Messor Barbarus colonies with some crushed dry dog food and they absolutely loved it! I just gave them a little amount though just for testing. Should I keep feeding them from time to time with it as a ***** or could it mold easily?

I would feed one colony dog food, the other insects, and keep everything else the same between the colonies. Thus, you could set up a controlled experiment and see what happens. You do have to remember that ants mainly look for body fluids in their food, so I would suggest feeding them wet dog food, not dry.

Good idea! I'll test it in spring since they're now resting in my garage.

Thanks for the tips! :)

Thanks for the information.
I'll check whether or not my Camponotus Barbaricus will like it in spring too.

My camponotus enjoyed dry catfood until about 15 workers, then they lumped it with their trash.
