I have recently caught a queen ant that I think is a British 'Pavement Ant' (Tetramorium)
I have kept it in a simple small tub, with a piece of cotton wool containing water.
I have checked on it every few days, and each time the cotton wool has had red/purple large spots on it.
Does anyone know what this is and whether it's normal?
Is it blood?
Thanks
I also can attach photos if needed

Re: Red spots on cotton wool in test tube setup
It would be helpful to have some pictures. Also don't worry. It's not antblood but I also have the same the whole piece of cotton looks redish and pink. would be interesting to know what it could be.
Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

So, ant blood is not red. It's clear. This is most likely bacteria growth.adama131 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 10, 2018 12:25 pmI have recently caught a queen ant that I think is a British 'Pavement Ant' (Tetramorium)
