Carpenter ant queen in test tube.

I captured what I think is a carpenter queen in early July, she still as wings and has produced nothing. I live in Florence Italy. When can I expect eggs?

She might not. If she still has wings she probably never mated. And if after 3 months hasn't layed a single egg, doesn't sound like a good sign sorry bud

Oh I thought they cut them off when they were done mating. But you may be right some Queens don't, hell some maybe even forget lol

Either way 3 months no egg... THAT is unusual

Please don't swear on this forum, which is supposed to be a "clean" environment. Thanks

Carpenter ants are the kind i am looking forward to keeping. I also am thinking of filming the ants as they build their colony. But first I need to find a place to live that will allow me to keep ants.

Dont stress about it. Some ants just dont want to lay eggs and take a while. It is most likely too late now, but i have found giving the queen a small drop of honey and a small bit of protien can encourage her to lay. Makes them full so they feel more comfortable. ex "Oh this place has food dropping right into my home, probably a good place to start a colony".

But it is late in the year, most of my queens have either stopped laying or really slowed down. New colonies most likely wont start until next year.

Haha. Was baffled on what you considered "swearing" in his sentence, then i noticed your signature. Havent heard that called a swear word since i was a kid, guess it could be a location difference.

It’s Definitely not a swear word. It’s a “location”. And it’s said on tv and radio everyday.
Keeping:
Tetramorium immigrans * Lasius Neoniger * Lasius Claviger * Messor Aciculatus * Myrmica Rubra * Camponotus Novaeboracensis * Camponotus Turkastanus * Pheidole Pallidula
