Lays eggs straight after feeding
How common is that? I fed my new colony a spider for the first time recently and that same evening after they demolished the spider she laid a huge load of new eggs. Almost like the food was a big green light
Re: Lays eggs straight after feeding
Sometimes they are on the verge, but are worried about wasting resources. Give her a little food, is overloaded in resources..so why not lay some eggs! .

awesome! makes sense . Its a lot of eggs laid this close to potential hiberation, interesting to watch!
Re: Lays eggs straight after feeding
My cremagastor queen did the same. She didn’t lay for a week, which was new for me, so I was worried she wasn’t going to lay before hibernating. I slapped a tiny drop of honey in there and the next day when I checked on her, I accidentally caught her in the act of laying. She now has the biggest egg pile I’ve ever had founding.

What happens to eggs laid shortly before hibernation? Do they remain in that state until the next year before developing?

Eggs, immature larvae, and pupae usually don't survive hibernation.
An ants' strength can be rivaled by few animals compared to relative body size.

Interesting. Weird time to lay a load then, though may not hibernate for a month yet I guess

The eggs laid are probably just for consumption.
