Help | Messor barbarus blocking the test tube entrance

Hello Community,
I got myself a Messor barbarus colony (1 queen + 11 - 25 worker) and put them into a small box to make it easier to feed them during their beginning phase. I'm using a 3 Watts heating pad during day which I turn off during night. Every now and then I put a little bit of water on the soil to keep a certain level of humidity.
Within the last few days they keep blocking up the entrance with soil. I barely even see an entrance hole but there are workers outside every now and then. My question is if this is a normal behavior or am I doing anything wrong?
