I think that you should choose a 3D printed formicarium because IF the carpenter ants need moisture then the wood could rot and THEN it would be really easy for them to chew their way out.
Foranto has water tubes built into the Wooden log I'm just not certain where so i contacted the company on Facebook hopefully they reply today
