I’m worried

Post: # 76588Post AntLuvForever

I have a new Lasius queen (do not exactly know the specific species.) but i have waited 3 days before checking and still no eggs. Wikipedia say that they should lay eggs almost immediately. Should i wait longer? I also dont want to wast a test tube on an infertile queen ant. I only have 50 test tubes :\ So not the most.
Pls help! Do you think she will lay eggs? How long will i need to wait for a lasius queen to lay eggs? I really want her to be successful. Plz reply as soon as possible! Thx!

Wait longer because every queen is different. 50 test tubes is a lot! Some queen ants take up to 2 weeks to lay eggs. Mabye even more if it's still winter where you live. How many queens do you have?

Ok well no problem. Just keep her longer and if she's fertile she will lay eggs soon. I wouldn't worry yet. Good luck with her!

Also can you help identify this EXACT species? I need to know what to feed them and their preferred humidity levels. Here is the link to the pic https://ibb.co/fQBNgjZ

Also, i checked out your YouTube channel. It’s actually not bad. Anyways, do I need to take a better photo for the ant? I hope the photo isn't too blurry.

Hear is a list of lasius ants in your area:
  • Lasius americanus
    Lasius aphidicola
    Lasius brevicornis
    Lasius claviger
    Lasius interjectus
    Lasius latipes
    Lasius minutus
    Lasius murphyi
    Lasius nearcticus
    Lasius neoniger
    Lasius pallitarsis
    Lasius plumopilosus
    Lasius speculiventris
    Lasius subglaber
    Lasius subumbratus

you can cross some off as you go. And your queen is probably lasius neoniger but just to make sure go true the list.
My current colonies:
-Miniature Military(formica neogagates)
-Black Hearts(crematogaster cerasi)
In search of new camponotus colony

Ok... i have a question tho. I have done some research on the lasius neoniger. And they have their earliest nuptial flights in June... but i found this in April. Is that possible? I mean i found her while digging a ditch so do try his mean she had already been there some time? Or is she infertile and wont lay eggs?

If you found her in the ground we can't know for sure when she had her nuptial flight because she has most likely been there since last spring/summer. There is a good chance she in fertile but you will have to wait to find out.
