FIRST TIME KEEPER, NEED ADVICE

Post: # 69591Post AntMan94

Hey everyone, I’m new here but I look forward to talking with you all.

So I just caught a Solenopsis invicta queen and I have her in a test tube setup. I’ve also read that higher temperatures promotes more brood production. So under her test tube I have one of those generic reptile heating mats connected to a thermostat to control the temps. I currently have it set at 77°F, is that satisfactory? Could I maybe even go higher?

Thanks so much in advance for any insight you might have :)
Here for the ants!! :D :D

Be careful with the test tube touching the heating pad. Warmer temperatures do promote growth, but if it's too direct you can cook your ants or the test tube might flood. Maybe put something between the heating pad and the test tube to be safe.

Is this heating pad/test tube set up in the dark, or out in the open?

Also only have the heating mat touch a part of the tube. there needs to be some spots that are a little cooler.
