queen ant randomly died?

i'm confused guys.
caught a queen ant today. put her in one of catchers (just there plastic tubes i use when i catch the ants). from the time i walked from the park (about a 2 min walk to my colleged) she just rolled over and died.

is this a thing that happens?

A lot of queens just don’t make it. Probably why mature colonies send out hundreds of new queens every year. Instead of just a few.

so they just die? like this was in a matter of minutes.

Well you don’t know what happened to that queen before you found her. She may have been in the process of dying for hours or days. She may have been kicked out of her nest because she was sick, or didn’t develop properly.

I had a bunch of tetramorium workers that were born with white heads. For two days workers were dragging the white heads out of the nest and dumping them in the outworld garbage pile. The white heads kept trying to get back into the nest, but they were being attacked by every normal tetramorium worker they came across.

If you think you perhaps caused her death in 2min, I doubt that. Unless the container she was in was ridiculously hot. Or you violently shook her for two minutes, but I still don’t see her dying that quick. The only other thing I can think of is something toxic in the tube you put her in.

I can't give you an accurate as to how it happens but with the death of the queen comes the fall of your ant colony. I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

I think it might have been the heat. since you mentioned it. ct is in summer and the average temperature is about 27 to 35 degrees.

Nature has a natural kill switch as I call it. It's how she controls insect population since as mentioned already ant colonies let out 100s of possible future queen's. If she did not install this kill switch, humans would not be the current rulers of earth that I believe to be a fact. Not that it would be any harm in my opinion....

She probably ingested pesticide before you caught her. I caught two queens in the same area and both died mysteriously after a few minutes, I later discovered that it was because the area I caught them in was treated with pesticide.

I've had this Amblyopone australis queen for almost 2 years but she starts dying for no reason. Does anyone have clue clue of why this is happening?
