Carpenter ant size??
Today I was biking in a local park and saw a queen ant on the ground. Normal I see fire ant queens but this one was bigger with bigger wings. I caught it to ID it but I’m still new to identifying ants. It has a red head and black thorax similar to a fire ants but its head is bigger and more squared if that makes sense. I think its a carpenter ants but I’m not sure how big they get. Whats the average carpenter ant size in Texas? Specifically the Houston area.

Sadly the queen mysteriously died a couple days after my post. I don’t think I got any pictures of it. Luckily I have seen more at a park about a mile from there and I’m planning to go back soon to see if I can find anymore so I get get pictures and ID.

Can you share what park you found them in? I live in the area and have had 0 luck finding one.
