I brought a heat mat for my caponotus and Pheidole queens who are both founding. How should I set my test tubes up for them? I am scared to put them to close to the mat, as they might die of heat.

Put one half of the test tube on the heating mat, that way they will be able to choose which side they like the best.
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.
