I think my camponotus queen ate her first larva, help
I think this ant is camponotus sansabeanus.
I have her in a test tube setup.
Two weeks ago, it looks like there was a larva in there with her, today it's gone.
Here's a pic of the tube from two weeks ago: https://imgur.com/a/4iNQcYM

Actually now that I think about it, I'm not sure if this is the queen's first larva.
I got this queen from someone on GAN, in my state. When I received the package, it was from out of state. I haven't been in contact with this person since then.
I'm not sure what to do next, I just want the queen to thrive.

You should not disturb her by checking on her often. That can cause stress and cause the queen to eat her brood. Try giving her a tiny drop of honey and only check on her once a week
Ants I have-
camponotus compressus colony- the shadow warriors.
Pls just let me have a tetramorium colony

I have checked on her only once a week.
I just looked at pics from the day I got her and her brood was actually much bigger before.

Should I wait a week since I just checked on her, or feed her the honey right away?

Location rules out Camponotus sansabeanus, it is much more likely Camponotus americanusasdglkjsadio wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 3:33 pmI think this ant is camponotus sansabeanus.

Long story short, I got this ant from a GAN farmer in my state. When I got the package it came from a far away state.SolenopsisKeeper wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 10:31 amLocation rules out Camponotus sansabeanus, it is much more likely Camponotus americanus

What state? You might want to look into getting a 100% ID, and if it isn’t C. americanus, you might want to inform AC who you bought it from so they can remove them. It is highly illegal to ship reproductive ants across state boarders. Following all of this, it means no queens may be shipped across state borders. I wouldn’t be to worried if it is indeed The American Carpenter Ant, as it means it’s shipped from the native range.asdglkjsadio wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 10:44 amLong story short, I got this ant from a GAN farmer in my state. Also, if you find out it is not C. Americanus, look at this website. I had a suspicion when I saw that blue sponge for water. It was just in stock the other day, I check to see when floridnaus hits the market.

I live in NJ and the package was shipped from Georgia. I know Georgia makes it kind of unlikely to be sansabeanus.
Yeah I did try to contact GAN and here's what happened:
>We gladly appreciate your feedback, comment and concern. We will look into it.
The farmer's listing is still up.
I feel betrayed. I feel like I could trust GAN, I let my guard down, and I got scammed. I paid a hefty premium because I assumed this person was trustworthy.

Hey, at least the replied with in 6 months. It is still Camponotus americanus which is good, or you might have a problem with the USDA. If you were actually mad, you can report him to the USDA I think. Quite honestly, no one who does not have knowledge on shipping ants and permits should ship ants.asdglkjsadio wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 1:31 pmI live in NJ and the package was shipped from Georgia. I'm pretty sure they knew it was illegal because when I explicitly asked if this was a queen from NJ he said yes.SolenopsisKeeper wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 3:23 pmHey, at least the replied with in 6 months. Do you know the proper channel to report this to the USDA?
I think I should also try to kick in venmo protection. Either it's not sansabeanus and the person lied about the ant, or it is sansabeanus and I should euthanize it.
