In my area, pet stores have “reptisoil” which is a combo of petemoss and soil ands more, and my invicta, Camponotus, and Odontomachus all love using it to annoy me by covering their tubes entrances xD. Now, when I check on them it will occasionally break.(They will do this with anything, even their own feces.

Not that I know of, my ants that are sensitive to any form of pesticide do fine with it, and it’s for reptilian feeders so that might kill the reptiles…

No, I don’t think so

I use clay soil for my ant colony too. Messor barbarus loves digging in it and it is very much stable soil once it was watered and has dried out.
Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

That’s reminds me, I once had some soil that I got, it was very soft like wet sand… but then, after getting it to dry out, it became a rock and never let the ants dig in it again. That soil is long gone
