New ant keeper

Greetings, I just got my first ever ant colony. It’s a lasius Niger colony in a test tube and it houses around 8 workers and a queen. However, everytime I give them honey or syrup they decide to just put their garbage in it and not eat it. There are eggs also waiting to turn into larvae. I don’t know why they would reject the food and turn it into their garbage site though. Anyone have any answers or suggestions? Much appreciated

Hears what happend: they had eaten some but you had put too mush so they covered the rest.
My current colonies:
-Miniature Military(formica neogagates)
-Black Hearts(crematogaster cerasi)
In search of new camponotus colony
[Have a look at antmaps.org]
