Hello - I am so excited to start my first any colony and am researching now to give them the best life. I am in London, I think the Lasius Niger will be great, so here's the questions:

Does hibernation affect when you should start a colony?

I could can buy a Lasius Niger queen ant now, so can I start my colony or will hibernation stop it from growing and thriving?

I would really appreciate your answers, I'm very new to ant keeping and AntsCanada, and I'm already so keen and love it already

Thanks :)

Q 1 answer: probably no, but if you start to see some unusual things then yes.
Q 2 answer: when ants hibernate, they won't grow so its best to buy the queen during spring or when you see ants moving around places you usually see them at spring or summer.
Hopefully this advice is good enough for you. :)
Keeping:
1 Polyrhachis sp queen
2 Odontoponera queens
2 Camponotus parius colonies
2 Camponotus sp colony
2 Camponotus irritans colony
1 Myrmicaria carinata queen
1 Carebara diversa colony
Are you amazed? :D
