My ants have wings and eggs?
Just a quick one I recently caught 3 queens on there nuptial flight 2 of wich still have there wings after a day or 2 they had all layed there first eggs but the 2 with wings still haven’t shed there wings will they still be able to care for there new brood using there wing muscles
Re: My ants have wings and eggs?
Nothing to worry about, some take more time than others to shed their wings. There's no need to feed eggs either, so no problem there. Have you checked if your ants are claustral / semi-claustral?Samtheantman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 2:43 amJust a quick one I recently caught 3 queens on there nuptial flight 2 of wich still have there wings after a day or 2 they had all layed there first eggs but the 2 with wings still haven’t shed there wings will they still be able to care for there new brood using there wing muscles

Re: My ants have wings and eggs?
Cheers, I’m not %100 what species they are I’m pretty sure there lasius niger queens, all caught on the same day I think there claustral as they have a big butt lol all her stored food and what not also they are not very active, would she not use her wing muscles to care for her first brood?
Re: My ants have wings and eggs?
If they are, they would indeed be fully claustral. They will consume their wing muscles to feed their brood, not their wings though. At the egg stage her brood won't need food.Samtheantman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 11:58 amCheers, I’m not %100 what species they are I’m pretty sure there lasius niger queens, all caught on the same day I think there claustral as they have a big butt lol all her stored food and what not also they are not very active, would she not use her wing muscles to care for her first brood?
