Ants next to musical instruments
Hello, I’ve set up some test tubes in my study for Lasius Niger founding Queens. They’re on the book shelf next to my harp. I’ve not practised my instrument yet since they’ve been placed there, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or advice.
I wanted to know if it would be a good idea to move them again, because of the vibrations from playing. Struggling to find someone to put them, as the cupboard they were in got as cold as 11 degrees.

My queen is next to a piano, and she does not seem to mind. I don’t think your ants will mind. If they do seem to act oddly then you should move them.

I've been wondering the same thing. Got an electric drumkit in the same room, which while quiet, does still involve tapping and stomping etc.

If it was camponotus, I would be worried, but Lasius is fairly hardy.

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

Also harps make very little vibrations through the surrounding surfaces which would effect the Lasius queens. So I think you'll be fine.

Thanks guys, interesting to notice the difference between species. I moved them out the room tonight, but I might leave them be next time. It might actually be less stress for them than moving the box!
