Colorado Queens ID
Caught 2 different species today. The large dark one is definitely some type of Formica . Dark one is about 12mm, the red one is about 8-9mm. I would greatly appreciate any help identifying the species of either of these. I know Formica is hard to ID (at least for me), so if specific any pics would ...

You can also make the entrance to the tube smaller. The easiest way to do this is to plug the tube with cotton, and insert a small piece of drinking straw beside the cotton. Mine really seem to like that. Also, I put loose play sand in mine as a base, and the like to use the sand to further customiz...

Re: Help ID this Camponotus Species
Sorry, it's not a queen. Nuts. Don't see many Camponotus around here, so when I saw this behemoth wandering alone I automatically assumed it was a queen, as it is twice the size of any other queen I've seen here. I have connected one of these to one of my Tetramorium colonies, so if and when they decide to move in, I will post some pics.

Re: Important question on componotus nuptial flights!!!
You can still find them flying. On his channel, he just caught like 6 Camponotus pennsylvanicus queens in Toronto, Canada. That's what I was asking about, why do they have two separate nuptial flights? Not only do different colonies fly on different days, most colonies have multiple nuptial flights...

Help ID this Camponotus Species
Just looking for a quick hand in identifying this Camponotus queen (it is a queen, yes?). Being colorblind, I have trouble with these. Approximately 12-13mm., caught in CO. Thanks.

Most Pogonomyrmex species require seeds. Give her feed for small birds that contains grass seeds.

Looks like a Tetramorium to me, but the pic is kind of dark.

Re: First nanitics! What now?
After the first nanitics have darkened, you can give them a drop of something sweet. The best thing to do would be to introduce a foraging area for them, and feed them there.

Re: A few questions about making a home-made grout outworld
Looks like there are already great answers to your questions here. As far as containers, you definitely want to be using something that is slightly tapered and larger at the opening. After your grout hardens, you will have to get it out, and I find that square containers are sometimes a big pain, an...
