Re: Help a newby out
Hello there, the first two ants are Myrmica sp. queens - I don't know what species. I've also caught a Myrmica queen, possibly Rubra, but it doesn't really matter as most of the Myrmica species behave the same. I wouldn't worry too much about their ID until the first workers hatch and it would be ea...

Re: Queen Ant from Switzerland
They look like Formica queens to me, but I'm not exactly sure what species. If you could take a closer picture and describe her characteristics - like thorax color, legs color, body hair, etc. it would be better to identify  Also try to give a better measurement in milimeters, because 15mm is ...

The black one looks like a Formica sp queen to me. It could be Formica Fusca. The one with yellow legs is most likely not an ant, but rather a fly or a beemusicman1701 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2019 9:12 amFrom research would I be correct in thinking lasius Niger and lasius flavus?

Looks like Camponotus Novaeboracensis or Camponotus Hyatti to me. Depends on her size - if she's 12 mm or smaller, she's Hyatti. If she's bigger like 15 - 18 mm long, then she could be Novaeboracensis

Hello, it looks to me like a Formica sp. queen. I'm not sure what species tho. It could be anything: Formica Rufa (protected social parasitic species that you cannot collect in many countries) Formica Pratensis Formica Cunicularia Formica Sanguinea or any other black Formica queen with red legs and ...

Re: Help with identification
I went looking but I’m not sure if 1. This is a Queen? 2. If she’s mated 3. If she’s injured. I THINK lasius flavious? https://ibb.co/YbC2X4P 1. Congratulations! You got what looks like a Lasius Flavus queen to me. They are a bit smaller than Lasius Niger and their gaster is bright yellow on the bo...

These are all Lasius sp. queens - probably Lasius Niger, as they flew on the 12th of July in Nijmegen where I live near by ;) Also, did you feed t...

Re: Need Help Identifying
Hello, New ant keeper in Alberta Canada, I caught the attached ant and am not entirely sure what species she is, I think she is Formica Podzolica but maybe not, her gastor seems different. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! The board is at its limit for images so links below to my one drive for...

Re: Concerns with which setup to use
I have a Lasius Queen who recently hatched her first workers. My options for housing them are an aquarium and a glass formicarium with a microfiber lid. They are similar to fire ants in size so I worry that they would have no problem escaping the aquarium. Also how many workers should she have befo...

Merged a parasitic queen with a fully claustral one and her brood!
Well yeah, like the title says, I just succesfully merged two species together without any harm to one or the other. I will try to explain what I did and show some pictures too :o  Three weeks ago I caught 16 Lasius Niger queens and left a couple for some experiments. Then I was preparing for s...
