Re: Queen ID

queen 2 is trying to break out of her test tube. She went through a 3 hour drive, so maybe this is normal behavior? This is something that Camponotus seem to do more often than others. I've had luck putting a little organic honey on the dry cotton side, or a small drop on a piece of wax paper or fo...

Re: Queen ID

1 definitely looks like Tetramorium.

2 is Camponotus.

Can't tell which without some more light. How large are they both?

Re: Please tell me it's a Queen

Nice!

She looks fertile this time, congrats!

Don't know what that second one is, reminds me of a Prenolepis Imparis worker though. I'll keep checking back till someone can name it, she looks interesting.

Re: Queen ant identification

Will probably need a closer /clearer shot and a size to identify.

The workers shape stands out to me, they're proportionally long. Almost looks like Aphaenogaster based on color and silhouette of workers alone.

Re: Queen Carpenter Ant?

Size and location fits Camponotus Pennsylvanicus . The best thing to do would be to release her if she isn't fertilized but it's hard to tell if a queen is or not. They don't always rip their wings off and don't always bloat up right away. Mine didn't have wings but wasn't bloated. After a 3 weeks s...

Re: Queen Carpenter Ant?

Looks like C. Pennsylvanicus . How big is she? It is a queen for sure, even if it isn't Camponotus. I'd guess she isn't fertile, I'd expect her abdomen to be more bloated. The bulk of C. Pennsylvanicus fly in June, there's a possibility that she never found a male, specially if she flew late. You co...

Re: Identify of ant

You have to find another site to host the images first. A link to show how https://forum.AntsCanada.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=162

I don't know if your pictures show the measurement but you should include that as well.

Re: Ants Making Wall of Trash in Connecting Tube

Not too sure myself, I haven't found anything but carpenters and acorn ants. Compared to both of these species that seems like a lot. Maybe it was referring to a year or two in? C. Pennsylvanicus supposedly have explosive growth after a few years from hundreds to thousands.

Re: Ants Making Wall of Trash in Connecting Tube

Nice!

Noted for future instances of this, heard it helped to have a digging medium with this species. Now if only I could find a queen. I've heard they have explosive growth, I'll have to try again next year.
