Today i found this tiny queen. Well actually im not even sure its a queen, or even an ant . If it is, I think its a Tetramorium Caespitum. Thank for your help!

Re: Cork formicarium
You might be able to keep lasius in it but I have no real experience with cork nests. Campontus would be much better suited for it although I believe you can make it work. As far as hydrating the nest, you should have developed a way to hydrate it upon construction. You might still be able to find ...

Cork formicarium
Hey guys, Today I made my first formicarium ever and I'm actually quite proud of it :D. Here's a picture of it... http://i.imgur.com/8Y1sQ27.jpg I was wondering (and hoping), would lasius niger be suited to live in such formicaria. If not is there anything I can do to change that? It's made mostly o...

Queen ant distinguishing
Hi everyone,
I was hoping someone could describe to me how to distinguish between a lasius niger queen and a lasius flavus queen. Nuptial flight seasons for both would be helpful too.
Thanks

Re: Polygynous species in the UK?
I know Monomorium Pharaonis is a polygynous specie of ant. However the don't have nuptial flights because of this reason. Instead they create new colonies by budding. So it may be hard to find them. But you when you do find a colony, it shouldnt be too difficult to locate a queen of two.
Good luck!
